Land Development

In 1948, K. Eugene Shank (Gene) wanted to marry a pretty, young girl named Mary.  He was a carpenter at the time, but had dreams of becoming a builder.  When he asked the girl’s father for her hand, he told Gene that he would give his blessing on one condition.  That condition was that Gene would have to build and sell a house of his own first.  With this as inspiration, Gene grabbed a pencil and drew plans for a small home.  He built the home on a lot in West York, PA.  In 1949, he married the girl of his dreams and started the business he dreamed of too.

For over 50 years, K. Eugene Shank built homes all over York County.  His homes were well known for their quality of craftsmanship.  Gene would accept nothing less.  His dad was a carpenter and his grandfather was a mason so it was in his blood.

Gene passed on the running of the company to his oldest son, Jeffrey, in 1991.  Jeff began working for his father during his summer vacations when he was only 15 years old.  After graduating from college, he took over the design components of the buildings, as well as working on the job learning all the skills needed for building a quality home.

Jeff has designed and/or built an large array of residences, churches, and commercial facilities. Lately Jeff has focused most of his energy on designing houses, land development, and government approval procurement.

The love of architecture, building, and the business continues with Jeff’s oldest son, Ryan.  He graduated in 2008 from Drexel University with a degree in Architecture and will be able to continue the putting the Shank’s mark in the construction business for many years to come.
